Is fitness training appropriate for seniors?  Absolutely!

Age, inexperience, gender, and even special physical needs or problems are no barrier to fitness training.  This includes resistance training, cardiovascular training, and flexibility.  Researchers have shown well-planned resistance programs using light dumbbells have actually helped senior patients gain enough strength to quit using walkers and even Carole, age 62, performs an upright row to work her shoulderswheelchairs.

Much of what happens to our bodies to decrease our strength, flexibility and cardiovascular and respiratory endurance is due more to inactivity than aging.  Seniors can achieve all of the health and fitness benefits that younger individuals gain from proper fitness training.
