Exercise and fitness are important for all children and youth. Fitness for children and youth includes resistance training (also called weight or strength training), cardiovascular training, and flexibility.
Everyday we are bombarded by the reports that today's youth are less fit and have more body fat than their peers even ten years ago. Are these reports really true or are kids today just growing faster and larger than ever before? It is a fact that today´s youth are less fit than ever before, but, fortunately, it isn't a problem that we are doomed to accept.
Children today have access to wonderful technology such as computers, video games, battery powered cars, DVD players, and an unlimited number of cable and satellite television channels. Technology is great!
Right now, technology is allowing Fantasy Fit, Inc. to share its health and fitness expertise with people all over the world! The unfortunate byproduct of all of this wonderful technology is that it has allowed people, especially children, to become more and more sedentary.
While more adults are realizing the value of a well-planned exercise program and proper nutrition, many of these same people are having trouble incorporating fitness and nutrition into their children's lives. The very lifestyles that have today's families constantly on the go make us more likely to grab whatever food is convenient, not necessarily nutritious.
At Fantasy Fit, Inc., we are committed to the fitness of tomorrow's adults. Our staff includes former educators who have devoted their lives to teaching physical and health education to children. We are dedicated to the challenge of helping young people raise their fitness levels and improve their overall health. Research has shown that the blood pressure, cholesterol, and overall health of even very young children is affected by inactivity, poor nutrition, and too much body fat. It is also important for children to develop good fitness and nutrition habits for lifetime.
Many people have questions and concerns about resistance training and weight training for children and youth. Children and youth can participate in these beneficial activities safely. In 1985, the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sport revised its youth fitness tests to reflect more health-related fitness than did the previous tests that many people grew up with. It is important to note that the fitness tests that your child does in physical education are HEALTH-RELATED FITNESS TESTS. These are not tests of athletic skill. It is important to understand that your child should perform satisfactorily on these tests regardless of his or her involvement in organized athletic activities.
