This worksheet is for target heart rate estimates only. Make sure to consult your physician before starting any exercise program.
Your true resting heart rate should be measured for a full minute, right after you wake up, but before you get out of bed in the morning.

Your heart rate should be taken at your carotid or radial artery using your index and middle fingers, or, with a heart rate monitor.
Count your pulse while timing yourself for one full minute. (For example: Use a watch or clock that measures seconds or watch your bedside clock change from one minute to the next.)
While exercising and counting your target heart rate manually for six seconds, the first beat you count should be counted as zero. It is preferable to monitor your target heart rate using a heart rate monitor.
